Saba

Introduction

Beaches

Saba beaches may not be as numerous as its other Caribbean counterparts yet whatever it may lack; it makes up for the novelty of experience. The island is the tip of an underwater mountain making beaches very scarce. Probably the most popular beach in Saba is the Cove Bay. Despite the scarcity of beaches, whatever is found underwater assures of breathtaking splendor. Saba is a snorkeling and scuba diving paradise where almost everywhere, a kaleidoscopic mix of corals, fishes and marine flora and fauna exists in harmony. A true feast for the eyes, such experience make you realize that fun in the sea need not be confined in the sand.

Things to Do

Diving is still atop the main draws in the Saba activities. The island boasts of having 27 different diving sites, each with its own unique majestic sight to offer. Probably the most popular sites include the Diamond Rock, an 80-foot dive site famous for the its wide array of tropical reef-dwelling fishes, Sabah Marine Park, a free snorkeling site where yachts can anchor, Well’s Bay, Babylon where schools of snappers and medium-sized fishes are abound and Twilight Zone – a place for orange elephant ear sponges and tiger groupers are common. Another famous attraction is Mount Scenery that extends 3000 feet into the sky. It known for its hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty and the breathtaking sites as you progress into its peak.

Shopping

Shopping in Saba is in itself and adventure. Saba resorts around the towns of the Bottom, Hell’s Gate and Windwardside are littered with specialty and gift shops. Cloth made of the local Saba Drawn Thread needlework is a must have to bring home. Another irresistible local rum-based liquor known as the Saba Spice is an equally astonishing find.

Eating and Drinking

Dining and drinking in Saba is mostly found in the towns of Windwardside, Hell’s Gate and the Bottom. A few of the favorite destinations include: Bistro del Mare, a restaurant that boasts of the freshest produce from the islands in panoramic views and beautiful sunset breezes; Brigadoon, the finest dining destination in while island that boasts of the widest array of wine choices; In Two Deep a romantic restaurant overlooking Fort Bay; and Rainforest Restaurant that prides in the most sumptuous dishes in a nature setting.
