Introduction
Off the eastern tip of the Caribbean, St. Lucia Island is nestled in tranquility with the majestic UNESCO Heritage Site of the Pitons forming a picturesque backdrop to the grandest vacation of your life. A relatively untouched paradise, St. Lucia boasts of world-class resorts, warm and sandy beaches perfect settings for any water fun under the sun, lush rainforests home to a number of the multihued species of flora and fauna, verdant fields of some of the tastiest fruits and local produce, and a delightful mix of French Creole atmosphere amidst a hint of English customs and traditions. Not to mention, St. Lucians are among the warmest groups of people in the world who would incessantly offer welcoming smiles to any tourist. That is why in St. Lucia, a vacation is always unforgettable.
Beaches
St. Lucia beaches in this island paradise means an abundance of choices of sandy stretches of white, tan and even black beaches. Reduit Beach, in close proximity to the world-class resorts and hotels, is the busiest and most popular because of its easy access and the abundance of water sports equipment concessionaires. Jalousie beach is flocked because of its crystal clear waters and enchanting sunset between the volcanic peaks of twin Gros and Petit Piton. Anse Chastanet is an Eden for scuba divers and snorkelers because of its vivid marine life, coral reefs and exhilarating sharp cliffs. For a quiet time alone or with family and friends, Pigeon Island is perfect for recreational activities or a solitary swim.
Things to Do
The multitude of St. Lucia activities is enough reason why visitors continuously gather in this island of impressive natural wonders. One of the few things only done in St. Lucia is the drive–thru volcano. The inactive La Soufrieri volcano with its collapsed molten lava dome has created a naturally occurring picturesque view of green, red and blue hues reminiscent of how the earth looked like 400,000 years ago. Equally exhilarating is the challenging yet refreshing climb of Gros Pitons. Over 2500 feet above sea level, once on top, the incredible view of the scenery and landscape of the island is just breathtaking. Bird watching, especially catching a glimpse of the endemic St. Lucia parrot, is equally enjoyable. From sulfur springs and waterfalls to historic museums, there is a seemingly endless array of adventures to choose from in St. Lucia.
Shopping
The capital city of Castries bustles with St. Lucia Island shopping. It is home some of the most interesting and fascinating finds including handicraft, jewelry, china, crystal and exquisite cloth. Duty free shops can also be found in Hawanorra, Rodney Bay, and Castries. Just north of Castries, the Gablewoods Mall is home to one of the densest concentration of shopping stalls, boutiques and supermarket.
Dining and Drinking
Of the St. Lucia activities, dining and drinking is perhaps the most well-loved. Passing on a chance to taste the authentic French Creole cuisine is close to a sin. For the discriminating tastes, restaurants in the island serve international cooking as well making visitors and locals alike look forward to every gastronomic experience. Rum, almost the island’s staple drink, is in abundance. A locally produced rum concoction known as Seventh Heaven lives up to its reputation and sets the mood for a Caribbean vibe perfect to dancing the night away.
